Agha Salman’s unbeaten 79 has propelled Pakistan to a strong position at the end of the second day’s play in the first Test against England. Resuming from their overnight score of 365 for 5, Pakistan added a further 150 runs to their total, finishing the day on 515 for 8.
The day began with Naseem Shah, the nightwatchman, playing a solid knock of 33 before being dismissed by Brydon Carse. Mohammed Rizwan was also dismissed cheaply, caught at mid-off for a duck. However, Salman and Saud Shakeel steadied the ship with a half-century partnership. Shakeel, who fell just 18 runs short of a century, was dismissed by Jack Leach.
After Lunch, Salman continued his impressive form, hitting a couple of boundaries against Leach. Despite a brief scare when he was almost caught by Chris Woakes, Salman remained unbeaten. He was well-supported by Shaheen Afridi, as the duo added an unbeaten half-century partnership for the ninth wicket.
England’s bowlers struggled to make inroads into Pakistan’s batting lineup, with Carse and Leach picking up two wickets each. However, Pakistan’s lower order batting proved to be too resilient for the English bowlers.
Brief Scores: Pakistan 515/8 (Shan Masood 151, Abdullah Shafique 102; Brydon Carse 2-74) vs England
