Bangladesh Cricket Board announced on Thursday that pace bowler Khaled Ahmed will replace Taskin Ahmed for the second Test against South Africa. This decision comes after Bangladesh’s defeat in the opening Test by seven wickets at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
The series-deciding second Test is set to begin on October 29 in Chattogram.
A member of the selection panel revealed that they wanted to give Taskin some rest to keep him fresh for the upcoming tours against Afghanistan and West Indies.
“Taskin is a crucial member of our team across all formats and will be away from home for an extended period,” said the selector. “We want him to be in peak condition for these important series, so we’ve decided to rest him for this Test.”
Khaled Ahmed has been included in the squad as a replacement and will be available if needed. The selector added that the team’s other pace bowlers, Nahid Rana and Hasan Mahmud, are fit and ready to go.
The Bangladesh squad is scheduled to depart for Chattogram on October 26.
