New Zealand Cricket announced on Tuesday that Kane Williamson will be unavailable for the third Test against India in Mumbai. The decision was made to prioritize his recovery from a groin injury and ensure his fitness for the upcoming home series against England, starting November 28th.
Williamson, who missed the first two Tests of the India series, will continue his rehabilitation in New Zealand. “Kane is showing positive signs, but he’s not quite ready to travel to India,” said New Zealand head coach Gary Stead. “We believe the best approach is for him to stay in New Zealand and complete his recovery, ensuring he’s fully prepared for the England series.”
With a month to go before the England series, the cautious approach will allow Williamson to be ready for the first Test in Christchurch.
New Zealand currently holds a 2-0 lead in the India series and aims to complete a clean sweep to bolster their chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship final. The third Test is set to begin in Mumbai on Friday.
