Sri Lanka’s ongoing injury crisis has taken another turn for the worse with star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga sidelined for the remainder of the ODI series against India. The all-rounder suffered a left hamstring injury during the first ODI and subsequent scans confirmed the unfortunate news.
To fill the void left by Hasaranga, experienced leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay has been called up to the squad. The 34-year-old returns to the national team after a lengthy absence.
The island nation has been plagued by injuries in recent times. Fast bowlers Dilshan Madushanka and Matheesha Pathirana were earlier ruled out of the ODI series, while Dushmantha Chameera and Nuwan Thushara were unavailable for the preceding T20Is due to various ailments.
Despite missing several key players, Sri Lanka managed to secure a thrilling tie in the first ODI, with Hasaranga playing a crucial role both with bat and ball. The second ODI is scheduled for Sunday at the same venue.
