Uncapped middle-order batsman Mahidul Islam Ankon has been drafted into the Bangladesh squad for the second Test against South Africa, replacing wicketkeeper-batter Jaker Ali who has been ruled out due to a concussion.
Jaker Ali sustained the head injury during a practice session on Friday, October 27. Given his history of concussions and persistent symptoms, medical experts have advised him to withdraw from the upcoming match.
“Jaker Ali had a concussion yesterday while batting in practice. Considering his past history of concussions and the ongoing symptoms, his recovery may take some time. Based on the clinical assessments, he has been excluded from the second Test,” stated national team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan in an official statement.
Mahidul Islam Ankon, a 25-year-old from Dhaka Division, has amassed 1934 runs in 43 first-class matches. His recent form is impressive, having scored a century (118) against Sylhet Division in the ongoing National Cricket League.
The second Test is scheduled to commence at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on October 29. Bangladesh currently trails the series 0-1.
