Rishabh Pant LSG

Following Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) loss to Delhi Capitals (DC) on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, LSG skipper Rishabh Pant acknowledged the significant role the toss plays in Lucknow’s home games. However, he clarified that he wasn’t using it as an excuse for his team’s defeat.

Delhi Capitals successfully restricted the hosts to 159 for 6 after being put in to bat. Although Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh provided a strong start, LSG failed to capitalize, losing wickets at regular intervals. DC, led by KL Rahul’s half-century, chased down the target with eight wickets in hand and 2.1 overs to spare.

Pant admitted, “We knew we were 20 runs short. In Lucknow, the toss plays a big part. Whoever is bowling first, they get a lot of help from the wicket. It always happens in Lucknow, in the second innings. The wicket gets better and better to bat on. Yes, the toss is playing a huge part here, but as a team, we are not looking for excuses.”

Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants’ assistant coach, Vijay Dahiya, credited the Delhi Capitals for their astute assessment of the conditions. He refrained from blaming the pitch, stating, “We had more than 80 runs in the 8th and 9th over. Thereafter we lost some momentum. So rather than talking about the pitch, we will try to address the other things. We should have seized that momentum.”

Dahiya further elaborated, “Let’s give credit where it’s due. I think Delhi Capitals bowlers assessed the conditions very well. If you look at both innings, there were a few overs where the ball stopped slightly. At that time, they used cutters and made a very good comeback.”

Despite the loss, Lucknow Super Giants remain in the fifth position in the tightly contested mid-table. Delhi Capitals, with their sixth win of the season, hold onto the second spot on the points table.   Sources and related content
